The NamibRand reserve is the only International Dark Sky Reserve in Africa and one of the darkest measured places anywhere. Sand holds the day's heat, so seeing degrades slightly after midnight — but transparency stays absurd. Winter nights are cold, dry and almost aggressively clear.
