Forecast for these nights
Tomas Lindqvist
Aurora forecaster, Abisko
Abisko's rain shadow means we usually have clear sky when everyone else is clouded out — but we chase anyway. A minibus, three fallback locations along Torneträsk, and Tomas reading the ACE satellite data. No experience or gear required; the first evening is a full camera workshop indoors.
Manual mode, focus at infinity in the dark, and histogram reading. Then out to the lake shore for the first attempt.
Mobile night. We follow the clearest sector along the lake with three fallback pull-offs.
Chairlift to the Aurora Sky Station at 900 m, above the valley haze. Hot lingonberry and a 360° horizon.
Final chase, then a late editing session with Tomas on white-balance and noise handling.
